on

Division champions from the SEC and Big 10 conferences square of at 1 p.m. ET Monday, Jan. 2, in the 2023 Cheez-It Citrus Bowl at Camping World Stadium in Orlando, Fla.

SEC West Division champion LSU Tigers (9-4), ranked No. 17, will take on Big Ten West Division champion Purdue Boilermakers (8-5) in the game nationally televised by ABC. It will be the first-ever meeting between the two storied programs.

LSU is making its sixth Citrus Bowl appearance, tied for most of any FBS program, and first under new head coach Brian Kelly, who came over from Notre Dame this season. The Tigers are 2-3 all-time at the Citrus Bowl, including their most recent visits, back-to-back appearances following the 2016 and 2017 seasons.

Ironically, the Tigers’ latest trip to the Citrus Bowl resulted in a 21-17 loss to Kelly’s Notre Dame team.

The Tigers end their 2022 season at Camping World Stadium and in addition will open the 2023 schedule at the same site when they face Florida State in the Camping World Kickoff, next September.

Purdue is coming off its first-ever Big Ten championship game appearance. The Boilermakers are making their second Citrus Bowl, having taken on Georgia in the 2004 Capital One Bowl, and third Orlando bowl, including a trip to the 2006 Champs Sports Bowl against Maryland.

The Boilermakers are looking for their first victory in Orlando bowl games. They will be led by interim head coach Brian Brohm, who is stepping in for his brother, Jeff Brohm, who has accepted the job as head coach at Louisville, his alma mater.

Brohm was 36-34 in six seasons at Purdue and led the Boilermakers to four bowl appearances. Brian Brohm is Purdue’s offensive coordinator and quarterbacks coach.

Tickets for the Cheez-It Citrus Bowl are available via Ticketmaster. Premium seating and additional offers can be found on the Tickets page. Groups of 10 or more may call the Florida Citrus Sports offices at 407.423.2476.
