DETROIT– Freshman Antoine Davis broke Stephen Curry’s NCAA single-season record for freshmen 3-pointers, sinking his 123rd triple of the year. It broke the NCAA’s freshman 3-point record previously held by Curry. After the game Davis said, “It was a relief, I just wanted to keep going, win the game.”

In 2006-2007, Curry attended Davidson in North Carolina who then played in the Southern Conference and now plays in the Atlantic 10 Conference.

The Detroit Mercy sensation and team won a close contest in historic Calihan Hall over IUPUI, 87-85. Davis tossed in 20. He worked for them all. There were 13 lead changes. Senior Josh McFoley had 23 points for the winners and freshman Marquis Moore had his best game of the season, grabbing 10 rebounds and adding 10 important points.

It was about three minutes into the second half when Davis broke the record in the south basket and he got a standing ovation from about the 4,000 in attendance.

With the win, Detroit Mercy (11-18, 8-9 Horizon League) secured a road game in the playoffs. The Horizon League finals will be at Little Caesars Arena in Detroit March 11-12.
