University men’s soccer (10-3-0, 3-1-0) would answer with a pair of goals to earn a 2-1 win in Western Athletic Conference action.“It was a very good win and UTRGV is tough to play against,” said head coach Pete Fewing. “It was an important win and two goals in league play are great. We had a couple shots that went off the post, including one from David Olsen, who scored his fourth goal of the season, and he continues knocking on the door. Shane Haworth came up with a couple big saves to keep us in the game as well.”

Scoreless at half, the Vaqueros’ Juanito Garcia scored his first goal of the season with a shot from the right side of the box into the left side of the net. Alex Ochoa and Isidro Martinez assisted on the goal.

Just over 10 minutes later, David Olsen (Auburn, Wash.) equalized the game with a shot from the top of the box off a cross from Alex Roldan (Pico Rivera, Calif.). Two minutes later, Michael Roberts (Issaquah, Wash.) scored the unassisted game-winner, his second of the season and seventh overall goal, on a rebound off the post.

In goal, Shane Haworth (Puyallup, Wash.) made four saves on five shots on target faced while Leo Castillo stopped half of the shots he faced (2).

Seattle U outshot UTRGV, 16-8, over the contest and earned five corner kicks.
