STILLWATER – Oklahoma State women’s tennis started the ITA Kickoff Weekend with a dominant victory against Notre Dame inside a packed Michael and Anne Greenwood Tennis Center on Saturday.

The No. 11 Cowgirls (4-0) swept the No. 32-ranked Fighting Irish, 4-0, in front of the 205 fans in attendance. This weekend marks the first time the Cowgirls have hosted the ITA Kickoff Weekend.

Through the first four matches of the season, OSU has outscored opponents 21-1. The Cowgirls have not surrendered a point since the first match of the season.

“It’s very exciting for us to host this event and have the caliber of teams that we have here,” head coach Chris Young said. “We have four teams that are going to have really good seasons this year and programs that have historically been some of the best in college tennis.”

OSU will play in the championship match against Northwestern on Sunday at 1:30 p.m.

The Cowgirls got off to a strong start by taking the doubles point to begin the match. Katarina Adamovic and Vladica Babic defeated Mary Closs and Jane Fennelly on court three, 6-2.

Viktoriya Lushkova and Carla Tur Mari secured the point for the Pokes on court two with a win against Brooke Broda and Allison Miler, 6-3.

“I think as the matches wore on we began to relax a little bit and play better tennis,” Young said.

In singles play, the Cowgirls capitalized on every chance to extend the lead.

Kelsey Laurente provided yet another impressive performance on court four. The senior took down Closs in straight sets, 6-0, 6-2. Laurente has outscored her opponents 24-2 in singles play this season.

Vladica Babic gave OSU its third point of the match with a win on court two. The sophomore defeated Monica Robinson, 6-4, 6-1.

Maria Alvarez completed the sweep for the Cowgirls on court six. The Spanish native defeated Julie Vrabel in straight sets, 6-4, 6-2.

The ITA Kickoff Weekend will conclude on Sunday with two matches. Arizona State will take on Notre Dame at 10:30 a.m. and the championship match between OSU and Northwestern will follow at 1:30 p.m.
