SHU Swimming Wraps Up Dual Meet Season With NEC Win


The Sacred Heart University swim team concluded its dual meet season with a 126-98 victory over Northeast Conference host Saint Francis Brooklyn. The Pioneers won eight consecutive individual events, as well as the opening medley relay.

Jillian Crosby (Port Monmouth, N.J.), and Olivia Decas (Mattaposiett, Mass.) paced the Pioneer effort with three victories on the afternoon.  SHU received two wins apiece from Caleigh Dion (Dunstable, Mass.), Siobhan Goodman (Ridgewood, N.J.) Jessica Poole (Shelton, Conn.) and Julia Pederson (Washington Township, N.J.).

The Pioneers now turn their attention to the NEC Championship Meet at the end of the month.


  • Dion earned the Pioneers first individual win in the 200 freestyle, in a time of 2:02.02
  • Decas followed with a win in the 50 free, touching at 25.53
  • Crosby’s win in the 100 free was the Pioneers fifth consecutive individual win, as she swam to a 54.90


  • Goodman gave SHU a fourth consecutive win in the 100 butterfly, going 1:03.16
  • Decas earned her second individual victory of the afternoon in the 100 backstroke, going 1:01.69
  • Poole gave the Pioneers their eighth individual win of the afternoon as she captured the 100 breaststroke in a time of 1:11.57    


  • Nicole Sauve (Walpole, Mass.) captured the 500 freestyle in a time of 5:29.61, taking the lead at the 200 yard mark and not looking back 
  • Poole earned a win in the 200 IM, taking the lead during the backstroke leg and pulling away for a five-second margin of victory at 2:18.11
  • Sauve had a second place showing in the 1,000 freestyle, touching in a time of 11:26.82, her fastest swim of the semester


  • Brown, Pedersen, Goodman and Crosby started the meet with a win in the 200 medley relay with a swim of 1:57.38
  • The Pioneers A relay in the 400 freestyle relay, of Decas, Pedersen, Dion and Crosby posted the meets fastest swim, at 3:49.56
