Renton, Wash. – The Seattle Seahawks have signed linebacker Bobby Wagner to a four-year contract extension, the team announced today.

A second-round choice (47th overall) in the 2012 NFL Draft, Wagner has started 40 of 41 regular season games played totaling 363 tackles (224 solo), nine sacks, five interceptions, 13 passes defensed and one fumble recovery. In eight postseason games, all starts, he has totaled 82 tackles (45 solo), two interceptions and three passes defensed.

Last season, he became the sixth player in franchise history to record 100-plus tackles in three consecutive seasons, collecting 104 tackles (67 solo) despite missing five games midseason, and also garnered first-team AP All-Pro and Pro Bowl honors for the first time in his career. He was also the NFL’s Defensive Player of the Month for December when he helped Seattle’s defense hold opponents to 8.3 points per game.

During his rookie season, Wagner set the franchise-record for tackles by a rookie with 140 (86 solo), breaking Terry Beeson’s record of 136 set in 1977. He also finished in second-place in the AP Defensive Rookie of the Year voting.
