NCAA Football Boca Raton Bowl: Western Kentucky 51 vs. Memphis 31


BOCA RATON, FL. (December 20, 2016) – Western Kentucky quarterback Mike White threw for 336 yards and three touchdowns, and running back Anthony Wales rushed for a career-high 245 yards and three more scores in the Hilltoppers’ 51-31 victory over Memphis at the Boca Raton Bowl on Tuesday.

Wales also added 84 receiving yards on four pass receptions, all from White, who completed 20-of-30 passes, including a touchdown pass in each of the first three quarters as Western Kentucky (11-3) spotted Memphis (8-5) leads of 7-0 and 10-7 before taking control.

The Hilltoppers took the lead for good late in the first quarter when lineman Forrest Lamp took a backwards pass on a trick play and scored from 9 yards out. It gave Western Kentucky a 14-10 lead that was extended to 28-17 by halftime.

A 16-7 third-quarter extended the Hilltoppers’ lead to 44-24 entering the fourth quarter.

Taywan Taylor led Western Kentucky receivers with nine catches for 144 yards and a touchdown.

Memphis quarterback Riley Ferguson threw for 372 yards and four touchdowns. Three of those went to Anthony Miller, who led all receivers with 11 catches for 151 yards.

However, the Tigers’ running game was limited to just 73 yards.
