Uncasville, CT - Liz Hall
founded Kids' Christmas 15 years ago after taking a second
job to make sure no child was overlooked during the holiday
season. The energetic grandmother of 24 grandchildren says
it is a labor of love. "The good Lord told me I had
to do something and so I acted," said the effervescent
Hall.
The Connecticut Sun partnered with Ms Hall
at the entrance to the Connecticut Sun arena on Tuesday
December 7, 2004, to collect donations of unwrapped toys
or gifts for this worthy cause.

Tie Up the Series |
| by
Kristen Melesky -10/11/04
Before tip-off,
UConn head coach turned WNBA broadcaster in the off-season had
a prediction. Auriemma predicted that even if the Sun did everything
they were supposed to do in Game 2 of the WNBA Finals against
the Seattle Storm, they would lose, simply because the Storm had
the sold out home crowd at the Key Arena to their advantage. The
Sun led by the offensive power of Nykesha Sales who had 32 points,
found themselves within 2 points in the final minutes of the game.
Unfortunately for the Sun, Auriemma’s prediction proved
true as the Storm took the victory with a 67-65 win before 17,072
fans. More |

The
Connecticut Sun took game one of the WNBA Finals against
the Seattle Storm with a defeat of 64-68. An aggressive
Sun defense shut down this season’s MVP candidate,
Lauren Jackson, holding her to just 14 points. Katie Douglas
led the Sun with 18 and Wendy Palmer added 16. Predicted
to finish last in pre-season polls, these underdogs are
not surprised with their success.
Surprise!
Surprise
has been a common word used by analysts, opponents and
reporters when referring to the Sun this season. There
was “surprise” with the strong play and leadership
of rookie, Lindsay Whalen as the new floor general. “Surprise”
with the newfound team chemistry and finally “surprise”
that this team, voted by the likes of women’s basketball
legend, Nancy Lieberman-Cline to finish last in the Conference,
has made it to the WNBA Finals. But this team, comprised
of no superstars, only hard workers knows that this was
far from dumb luck.
After
the Sun’s win over Seattle in game one Friday night,
members of the media were still not convinced.
“Are
you all through surprising yourselves with what you’ve
done so far?” one reporter asked.
“I
don’t think surprise is the right word,” responded
Whalen. “I don’t think we’re surprised.
We know we’re a good team. We know we should be
in this position.”
Whalen
does know her team. With a game-high and franchise record
of nine assists in the Sun’s first-ever WNBA Finals
appearance, Whalen has proven to be a team leader.
