Kennesaw State Women’s Golf Sits Tied for Seventh after First Round of Hawkeye El-Tigre Invitational

Puerto Vallarta, Mexico. – Senior Dulcie Sverdloff played her final nine holes in one-under par on Sunday afternoon, and her opening-round 73 (+1) has the Kennesaw State women’s golf team in a tie for seventh place after round one of the Hawkeye El-Tigre Invitational at El-Tigre Golf Club.
 
KSU posted a 15-over par 303 in the opening round in very windy conditions. The Owls are tied with Coastal Carolina and are just eight shots behind defending National Champion Washington who led the 14-team field with a seven-over par 295. 
 
“In windy conditions, the team maintained solid position throughout the entire round,” said head coach Rhyll Brinsmead. “We made some costly errors over the finishing holes,that we know we need to be more focused on tomorrow. Dulcie led the way today and put together a great back nine. We’re excited to make up the small gap between us and the top three tomorrow.”
 
Sverdolff is tied for fourth and sits just two shots back of Pi-Lillebi Hermansson of Ole Miss, who carded a one-under par 71.  Sverdloff’s 13 pars in her opening round are tied for seventh-most in the field. 
 
Sophomore Medy Thavong opened with two early birdies and closed with seven pars on her final nine holes to record a two-over par 74. Thavong is tied for 11th place.
 
Sophomore Charlotte Charrayre carded a four-over par 76 in the opening round and is tied for 28th overall. Chrrayre made 10 pars and two birdies in her first round.
 
Henriette Nielsen posted an 8-over par 80 and is tied for 55th after pars on four of her last six holes.
 
Madison Caldwell fired an opening round 86 and is tied for 75th.
 
Round two is scheduled for Monday. The Owls are off in Saturday’s second round at 3 p.m. You can follow along with live scoring here.
