Lady Lions drop UTSA on Friday, 4-1

April 13, 2012
HAMMOND, La. - Kenna Terry allowed just three hits and a pair of UTSA errors in the sixth led to three unearned runs to help Southeastern Louisiana to top the Roadrunners 4-1 on Friday night at North Oak Park.

Senior Ashley Kappler went 2-for-3 and scored the only run for the Roadrunners, who fell to 16-21 overall and 6-5 in Southland Conference play. Meanwhile, Michelle Duhe had three hits and an RBI to pace the Lady Lions (9-28, 2-9 SLC).

Southeastern Louisiana took a 1-0 lead in the second on Katie Matthews’ two-out RBI-double to right that scored Kayla Elswick from first. UTSA knotted the score in the fourth when Kappler started the inning with a single and moved to third on a throwing error by Trish Bliss. Freshman Megan Low drove in Kappler with a sacrifice fly to right for her team-leading 24th RBI.

However, the Lady Lions took the lead for good in the sixth thanks to a pair of errors and run-scoring hits from Bliss, Duhe and Katie Doyle. Terry, who allowed an unearned run and tallied one strikeout, finished off the victory with a perfect seventh inning to improve to 3-12. Reliever Alyssa Vordenbaum took the loss for the Roadrunners after allowing three runs on three hits in 3.1 innings to fall to 3-8.

UTSA will look to split the series tomorrow when the teams meet at noon.
