SAN ANTONIO - Houston scored in each inning and hit three home runs to power a 10-0 run-rule win over UTSA on Tuesday evening at Roadrunner Field.
Sophomore Molly Fichtner went 2-for-2 at the plate for both of the Roadrunners’ hits as the squad fell to 21-26 on the season. Meanwhile, Haley Outon went 3-for-4 with a homer and three RBIs to pace the Cougars (30-21), who snapped a three-game losing streak.
Houston opened the contest with three runs in the first inning off UTSA starter Haylee Staton. The Cougars plated a run in the second and third before a pair of tallies in the fourth on RBI hits from Outon and Kelly Lindley. A three-run fifth inning, highlighted by back-to-back homers from Gerbracht and Outon, capped the scoring.
Staton took the loss and fell to 13-7 on the season, while Bailey Watts (12-8) allowed just two hits and struck out four en route to the victory.
UTSA will close out the regular season this weekend with a two-game series at Stephen F. Austin. First pitch of Friday’s series opener between the Roadrunners and Ladyjacks (16-30, 6-12 SLC) is set for 4:30 p.m.
