Big Ten Announces Three Staff Promotions
July 21, 2012Park Ridge, Ill. – Big Ten Commissioner James E. Delany announced today three staff promotions within the conference. Mike McComiskey was named Associate Commissioner of Technology, Kerry Kenny was promoted to Associate Director of Compliance and Jessica Palermo was elevated to Associate Director of Championships.
McComiskey has served as Assistant Commissioner of Technology since 2006, after previously serving as Director of Technology since joining the conference office in 2001. He was heavily involved with the conference's pioneering football instant replay efforts beginning in 2003. In addition to working on the conference's IT-related projects, he has recently assisted with conference television administration and media rights agreements as well as with the conference’s scheduling efforts. A native of Falmouth, Mass., McComiskey came to the Big Ten from Quokka Sports/Total Sports where he was the product manager for the NCAA's championship websites. McComiskey also worked at his alma mater, the University of Massachusetts, for six years in the media relations office.
Kenny enters his fifth year at the conference office, having served the previous three years as an Assistant Director of Compliance after starting his Big Ten career as the Governance Intern in 2008. Kenny graduated from Lafayette College in May of 2007 with a degree in economics and business and was a senior team captain on the school's men's basketball team. During his time with the Big Ten, Kenny has served in a multitude of leadership roles outside of compliance, which include directing the conference’s drug-testing program and serving as liaison for the sport of wrestling. Kenny is also the primary administrator in the conference’s ongoing efforts to study head injuries and concussions, including the recently announced collaboration with the Ivy League.
Palermo spent two years as an assistant director before rising to associate director. She began her career at the Big Ten in July 2009 as the C.D. Henry Championships Intern before being promoted in 2010. Palermo helps orchestrate Big Ten Championships and Tournaments, serves as the conference liaison for select coaches groups and works with the Sports Management Committee. A native of Madison, Wis., Palermo graduated from Edgewood College in 2008, then completed her masters of sports management at Georgetown in 2009. She served as a Student-Athlete Leadership and Performance graduate assistant during the 2008-09 academic year, where she worked with the Student-Athlete Advisory Committee and student-athlete life development programs.
