Falcons Forum: SPU athletes share favorite sports memories from past summers

July 19, 2012

SEATTLE – Throughout the summer, the Seattle Pacific sports information team will pose a question to various Falcon athletes. This week's question:

What is your favorite sports memory from summers past – a camp, competition, etc. – and why is that your favorite memory?

Dani Ferrigno
Women's rowing
I used to do swim team every summer with my best friend, and we would carpool to practice in the mornings at 7 – which was super early back then. On Saturdays, we had swim meets. We mostly just had fun and joked around, but we were able to get a workout in, too. It was great, because you got ribbons for everything.

McKayla Fricker
Women's cross country/track
My favorite memory would be accomplishing the 30-mile hike/run that went down, through, and up a canyon. We did that at Steens Mountain Running Camp, and it's the most challenging and rewarding adventure.

Megan Lindsay
Women's soccer
When I was in junior high school, our club team went directly from a soccer tournament in Virginia Beach to another one in San Diego. The weather in Virginia was incredibly humid and exhausting to play in – not at all like what I was used to.

Rachel Murray
Women's basketball
When I was younger, I used to compete in a tournament during the summer with a bunch of friends. We always had an awesome time playing games and then relaxing by the pool.

Jon Pearman
Men's soccer
My favorite memory is when I went to Spain with the Real Salt Lake youth development team. We were invited after winning the SUM Cup from a previous summer, and we got to play some of the professional teams' youth programs in Spain. It was a blast seeing Madrid and playing at such a high level.
Shelby Swanson
Volleyball

My favorite memory is competing at the Volleyball Festival in Reno with my club team. We finished third in the tournament, which was the highest finish in our club history.

Stephanie Wagner
Gymnastics

Summer is always fun for gymnasts because it's the time when we can learn new skills and try as many different skills as we can since we don't have to start training routines until October. So we get a free reign of skills that we want to train.
