Ø Past Week Performance! The Walleye started a long week with a 4-2 win Wednesday night in Cincinnati. Goaltender Jordan Pearce made 35 saves in the win. The Cyclones would collect the win in the rematch 4-2 Friday night at the Huntington Center. The Walleye would rebound with a 4-2 win Saturday night in Fort Wayne behind a goal and two assist performance from Terry Broadhurst. Toledo scored two goals in the third period Sunday afternoon to best the Kalamazoo Wings 3-2.
Ø Road Record! With its three road wins this past week, Toledo set a new Walleye record for the longest road unbeaten in regulation streak to eight games (7-0-0-1). The previous high was six games set between the dates January 15- February 16, 2011. Toledo has won five straight road games since a 3-2 shootout loss at Wheeling on November 1st.
Ø Streaking Along! Walleye forward Willie Coetzee and defenseman Ben Youds are each had their five game point streaks snapped Sunday in Kalamazoo. Coetzee scored three goals with four assists, while Youds has scored twice with four assists. Five games is the longest streak for any Walleye player this year.
Ø Pearceing the Competition! Goaltender Jordan Pearce has won each of his last five starts after suffering a loss in his first Walleye start this season. In those five starts, Jordan has posted a 2.00 goals against average and .929 save percentage.
Ø Gametime! This run through the North Division continues for the Walleye as the Kalamazoo Wings come to town Friday night. Toledo is 1-1-0-0 against the Wings this season. The Cincinnati Cyclones come to Toledo for a Saturday night tilt. Toledo is 2-1-0-0 against the Cyclones this year. The week will culminate with the Walleye making their first trip to Evansville. The IceMen defeated Toledo 4-1 in the only meeting between the two.
Ø Promotions! Friday night is another Postgame Party with the Players! Saturday night is a busy night with an appearance from the famous Hanson Brothers! It is also the night of the Teddy Bear Toss, in which fans are encouraged to bring a new Teddy Bear to the game and throw it out on the ice when the Walleye score their first goal. The bears will go to Lucas County Children’s Services to be distributed in the community.
