NEW YORK – The New York Liberty is teaming up with The Breast Cancer Research Foundation® for this season’s “Breast Health Awareness Night,” presented by Delta Air Lines, on Friday, August 6 at Madison Square Garden. The Breast Cancer Research Foundation® (BCRF), whose mission is to achieve prevention and a cure for breast cancer, will serve as the beneficiary of the evening. A portion of the proceeds from ticket sales, as well as various fundraising activities throughout the game will benefit BCRF. This is the third year that the Liberty and BCRF have teamed up for “Breast Health Awareness Night.” The evening will be presented by Delta Air Lines, who will be providing keychains to the first 5,000 fans arriving at Madison Square Garden.

“The Liberty is proud to join forces with Delta Air Lines and The Breast Cancer Research Foundation® in support of this important health initiative,” said team president and general manager Carol Blazejowski. “This event not only helps raise awareness of breast cancer and The Breast Cancer Research Foundation®, but also gives us the opportunity to join forces with our loyal Liberty fans to raise critically important funds for research.”

"Last year Delta employees raised $1 million for the Breast Cancer Research Foundation®, so it's a cause that is near and dear to our hearts,” said Gail Grimmett, Delta Air Lines Senior Vice President, New York. “We are proud to team up with the New York Liberty to spread awareness and work to find a cure."

Fans will be encouraged to visit the 6th floor concourse level to purchase raffle tickets for a chance to win limited edition autographed items, such as authentic pink breast health awareness Liberty jerseys, a 2010 Liberty team pink and white basketball, WNBA team jerseys, plus Delta Air Line tickets, a two-night stay at a Category 4 Starwood Hotel, concert tickets and more. A special ball ceremony will take place before tip-off that will include Liberty season subscribers, as well as Delta employees that are all breast cancer survivors.

The Breast Cancer Research Foundation® was founded in 1993 by Evelyn H. Lauder as an independent, not-for-profit organization dedicated to funding innovative clinical and translational research. In October 2010, BCRF will award $33 million to over 170 scientists across the United States, Canada, Latin America, Europe, the Middle East, and Australia. Over the past year, more than 88 cents of each dollar donated to the Foundation went directly to breast cancer research and awareness programs. And the American Institute of Philanthropy has awarded the Foundation its highest possible rating of A+. BCRF is the only breast cancer organization to receive this accolade; and is the only cancer organization to currently hold this ranking. For more information about BCRF, visit www.bcrfcure.org.
