STORRS – For the first time since March 2, 2009, the UConn men’s basketball team is the No. 1 team in the Associated Press Top-25. The Huskies ascent to No. 1 comes amidst a 15-2 start for the reigning national champions.

This week will mark the 30th week in program history that UConn will sit atop the national polls. The Huskies have played 50 total games as the No. 1 team in America, compiling a 41-9 record in those contests. It is the first No. 1 ranking of the Dan Hurley era.

UConn received 39 of 63 first place votes and totaled 1,542 points in the poll. This is the seventh season in which Connecticut has ascended to No. 1 and the 10th different time it has made its way to the top spot.

The Huskies are currently on a five-game winning streak, improving to 5-1 in BIG EAST play for the first time since the 2008-09 season. UConn’s strong start to conference play comes after a  non-conference run that included top-15 wins over Texas, North Carolina and Gonzaga. In league play, UConn has gone on the road for Quad 1 wins at both Butler and Xavier to run its Quad 1+2 record to 7-2 on the year.

No. 1 UConn is back in action on Wednesday when it hosts No. 18 Creighton at Gampel Pavilion for a 7 p.m. tip on FS1.
